Destination Unknown... You never know where you are going til you get there!
The story of the Wandering Hobo is about my new found freedom and desires to travel N. America. I would look at an atlas and wonder what life was like in different parts of Canada and the USA. I took on the theme of a Wandering Hobo, just an ordinary guy travelling through life, sharing the adventure through words and pictures of the journey. Life is full of twists and turns and surprises! The Texas Road Trip proved to be a turning point in my life, a milestone. My following trips gave me time for soul searching and to find myself again. I was never really lost but perhaps really, it was more of a time out to set new goals in life and to enjoy visiting new places as each day unfolded.
A milestone in my life occurred... D-I-V-O-R-C-E. After the breakup and divorce, it was time to begin a new life. Time to reorganize and to rebuild. Goals were established such as to travel as much as possible, to continue to invest in the stock market and to give dating a 5yr try. Then the plan was to look back and to see where life had gone once the five years have passed. 5 appears to be a number of change i find.
Looking back now after 5 years, I did travel throughout N. America. The stock market plus an inheritance
restored my finances and then some. (In just 5 1/2 yrs. I was 6 times wealthier than what the divorce
settlement left me...amazing!) I dated many women over that 5 year span. Some were nice and some I ran from!
Haha... Some personality types just don't match at all. I learned a lot. Life moves forward and doesn't always
give you a second chance. On September 13, 2003 another milestone was crossed when I met a "right" lady for me.
On December 13, 2003, I gave her an engagement ring. I have begun work on a new website...
Milestones
Well, we got married on Oct 24, 2004 as our life was on a fast track having completed the cross country trip in 2004. We also bought a business and a vacation rental and weekender home in April of 2005. I have travelled the west coast on down to California back in 1992 and was planning to do another trip back down that way. Well, with the high price of gas now, buying a hair salon, "Creative Profiles Salons Inc. plans have changed. I have invested in a rental property in Saskatchewan. I also bought a lake lot plus 1/2 ownership in a second one. These properties will be keeping us busy for the next two years as well. The realtors are saying that Saskatchewan will be where the next boom is and it did hit. Property was very cheap right now making it a great province to retire to. Saskatchewan does have oil, gas, diamonds and wheat. The fundamentals are there to outpace Alberta in the future. I formed a new company Aug 1, 2007. United Team Capital Ventures Ltd. The company will be investing in stocks, real estate and the launch of a financial DVD at some point in the future. Never a dull moment!
Decisions, decisions! Currently I have been wanting to invest in U.S. vacation destination real estate with others using a U.S. corporation with a target date now of 2009. I also took the Quickstart Home Study Program through REIN. I have since been able to hear and view the Joint Venture Program. Plans are to build a cabin at the lake this summer. In the meantime, i sold the old homestead after living there almost 20 years to pay off the mounting salon business debt. My corporation purchased 2 properties, a small duplex in a town an hour away from the city plus a home in the Crowsnest Pass both which will be furnished short term rentals. Also I am helping a couple to buy a rent to own house. First time i bought a property that i have not set foot in! Interested in Joint Venturing with me? Holding 7 properties with only one as a joint venture. At this time, there is not enough interest to pursue the U.S. real estate and the exchange rate made it 20% more costly to buy U.S. dollars. (You snooze, you lose!) We have headed in the direction of creating short term furnished rentals for travellers to enjoy. That project did not bring in enough money to keep it going and is now up for sale.
The salon has been closed and had no buyer so must be disassembled by Dec 31st. My other half was not well and too many bad things have happened with it. The debt had wiped out the principle residence, knocked out travel plans, knocked out all the cash flow that was coming in since we now became renters. We get to pay 3X as much for 4 times less space! The real estate venture has turned into a fix and flip business and ran out of working capital. Retirement is as early as just over a year now, so time to realign the ducks! That will prove to be a challenge in the coming months and years perhaps now. Not everything in life that happens is good. Another 5 years now have passed. The number of change, remember? Change to what I wonder now?
