Calgary To Winnipeg March 9, 2001 to March 18, 2001
Here we are... All ready to depart the +13C weather for the cold icy winds that blow in Winnipeg,
Manitoba and the surrounding areas. The car is an 1984 Nissan Sentra with around 176,000 kms on it. It uses
oil every tankfull while driving on the highway. I paid $450 for it plus did $600 worth of repairs to the
beast. This will be the longest trip yet with it. So far, so good. Elmo wants to drive as usual as he poses
for this picture. As I past Chestemere Lake, I could see some ice sailing going on. I pulled into a Canadian
Tire Gas Bar and noticed oil on my tires and thank goodness, I just ran over a puddle of the stuff and it
wasn't leaking from my engine.
In the prairies, you can see both the front end of the train and the tail end. Boring flat land
abounds! In fact i hear that if your dog ever ran away, you could watch him running for 3 days!
I have travelled this stretch of highway many times over the years.
Well, I followed this full moon as I headed east and was looking for a picture. I was hoping to find
an oil rig and to take the picture of the oil rig as a silhoutte. I could only find this view that appeared
to be what I would just have to settle for. Waldeck, Saskatchewan
As the night wore on, I could see this sunset in my rear view mirror. I tried to car camp with the
two sleeping bags in the back, but the temperature was just too cold for that. Once the car cooled down and
those sub zero temperatures started happening, I woke up, started the car and on down the road I went.
And still one more after the sunset picture.
Trip Across Canada (Trip of a Lifetime) - Loved the Saskatchewan and Manitoba comments!

Here is Tyler, my grandson. What a trooper!
On the way home to Calgary, you pass this scene. A German Shepard from the farm house came out to
check out Elmo while I was trying to take this picture. I had a feeling that they would not get along so I put
Elmo back in the car.
Time for the Wandering Hobo to set sail on a new adventure! I only wish. I no sooner returned home
and left for Winnipeg again. The second trip was going to be a final one to say goodbye to my mother.
Little did I fully realize that time was running out for her fast. She passed away on April 7, 2001. We all have to go
through sad moments in life and this was one of them for me. I knew the time had come in which I would have to
lay my mother to rest. It was a very hard trip to make. While at the hospital, i noticed a Texas travel
guide in one of the little waiting areas. The guide just jumped out at me. I knew was going to Texas in
the future, but when? I knew that i had to go there and i would. That calling was very clear to me.
