WINSLOW, ARIZONA TO WILLIAMS, ARIZONA

Yahoo! On the way to the Grand Canyon by 7 a.m. With the short daylight hours, you had to be up early and put some miles on down the road. I saw a spectacular view of Humphrey’s Peak, highest point in Arizona – over 12,600 feet. Just near Walnut Canyon, I got his much sought after, prized shot of Route 66 with the mountains and trees as a backdrop. Sunset Crater Volcano – 1000 feet Bonito Lava Flow occurred in 1180 AD Painted Desert Viewpoint.

I drove along the famed historic route 66 in many places.

On Hwy to Grand Canyon, I took this side trip to Sunset Crater.

A real volcano.

I did not have time to do the hike up the volcano so I took a few pictures from the trailhead instead.

Posing on a tree. Gee, i gotta lose some weight!

This was the lava flow of the last eruption.

As I headed on down the road from the volcano, the scenery changed to this.
