I decided to take another route home, so that I
could see some different scenery.
I passed through Golden, CO. I did a drive-through tour of Boulder, CO., which is a
lovely mountain town. There’s a University there, and
it is full of gorgeous old buildings with outstanding
architecture, poised against the beautiful backdrop of
the Rocky Mountains.
Then I took Hwy. 287 up to Laramie, WY. It was such a
beautiful drive, and I was so glad I took this
route rather than the Interstate up to Cheyenne, WY.
Along the way, I stopped to take some photos and
noticed a coyote carcass in a ditch.
Somewhere along the way, between Laramie and Rawlins,
WY, I lost our oil cap. After another pit stop at an
auto parts store to replace it, I was on my way
again.
I then drove through the Great Divide Basin, where
the Continental Divide passes through near the town of
Lamont, WY. The basin is full of sagebrush, with
mountains all around.
The sign for the town of Lamont reads: Lamont,
Population 3. Hard to believe that money was even
spent for that sign, for the sake of 3 people!
One thing I noticed in these remote areas when I
stopped to take pictures was the unearthly quiet all
around me. It felt like I was the only people on the
planet! Sometimes it sure seemed that way too!
Just north of Sweetwater Station, WY, just after I
turned onto Hwy. 135 going north to Riverton, WY, I
saw an unbelievably spectacular vista of a deep canyon
and valley to the west of the highway. Unfortunately,
it was getting too dark to get pictures of it, but it
just about blew me away!
Highway 287 north!
I stopped here for a scenic shot and found a decayed coyote carcass to my surprise. (Lower right)
This looked like another good place to take a picture.
Wyoming. Movin' right along!
On down the road I go...
