THE TEXAS TRIP - DAY 14

THE TEXAS TRIP - DAY 14 - Friday, December 28, 2001

LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO TO ANTHONY, TEXAS

Friday had come at last and I could blow this town and get back on the road. Whiteline fever was really burning after the month long 5 day stay here in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Poor me had to fork over $667.43 in U.S. funds for the valve job on his poor little Nissan – OUCH!! I got the car, but then had to take it back to the garage for a quick adjustment on the idling speed. At 1:10 p.m., with my fingers and toes crossed for good luck, I finally escaped from Las Cruces and I was on the road again! In less than an hour I arrived in Anthony, TX, just down the road from El Paso. I stopped at the Flying J to do my laundry, and then took a tour of the El Paso area. I drove up the Transmountain Road into the Franklin Mountains State Park and on through Fort Bliss Military Reserve. The reserve consists of a lot of reddish sand with sagebrush on it, though I’m sure there’s a lot more there than meets the eye! Then I drove through El Paso and back to to Anthony. I car camped that evening at the Flying J in Anthony, Texas and was happy to find that it wasn’t nearly as cold as the experience I had in Winslow, AZ!

Texas! Yes! The destination state of my journey! This was exciting to cross this state line for the first time in my life.

I drove up the Franklin Mountains road to get an overview of El Paso. You could see into Mexico from here as well.

The sun was going down on another day of adventure. The car seemed to be back to normal and I was on my way. Yeah! Yippeeeeee.... oh what a feeling!
