THE TEXAS TRIP - DAY 1

THE TEXAS TRIP - DAY 1 - Saturday, December 15, 2001

LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA TO BILLINGS, MONTANA

Just before the trip, I was at a Chinese restaraunt and the fortune cookie came up for me that I was to have a good weekend ahead and thus the 4 week vacation was to start. I headed out 10:30 am into thick fog along Hwy 4 to the US border. From I-15, I turned onto Hwy 87 in Great Falls, Montana. The architecture in Lewistown, Montana was interesting to view. I had two close encounters with deer along the way. As I went through the Bull Mountains, the roads were not in great shape, but partly covered with snow. I ended up in Billings, Montana for the night around 10pm. One thing to note already was the short days of the winter. There was so much less time to see any sights with the darkness falling around 5 pm. This was a frustrating factor on the roadtrip. Here are the pictures for day one...

One thing interesting about this trip was the time of year that I was taking it with many Christmas displays to see everywhere. This was taken in Lethbridge, Alberta just before I headed out.

As I headed out from Lethbridge, Alberta on hwy 4, I encountered some pretty thick fog. This made for a very interesting photograph.

I flew the US flag on the rear wiper arm. I would see many signs on the trip saying..."Thank you for travelling". Gas prices were also very good averaging $1 US gallon.

Welcome to Montana! I am really on my way now! Lots of snow! Hopefully, I would find warmer weather as I headed south!
