TRIP TO CROWSNEST PASS - STORM AFTERMATH

TRIP TO CROWSNEST PASS - STORM AFTERMATH

Sept 11th... Disaster in the pass! A severe snow and ice storm occurred bending limbs til they broke with the weight. Over 50 power poles were knocked down leaving residents without power for 2 1/2 days to over a week! This freak storm was due to the changing weather pattern caused by hurricane Katrina i am told. We stayed away during that time. Upon returning, we checked the freezer to find a bag of ice cubes still in a cube form. There was pretty much a solid block of frozen products in the freezer so the 2 1/2 days of no power did not affect the freezer goods. We tossed the refridgerated items.

What a welcome sight to see a broken limb laying over the gate!

There were two broken limbs and no other damage to the property.

It must have taken a lot of weight to have snapped this huge limb. A number of trees in the pass now have little limbs and look like poles standing up as you drive through the area.

On the way home, we come up to a traffic light before Chain Lakes off in the distance. One half of the road ahead is chewed away as construction crews work on the area.

The real disasters happened after the prelude to them! The storm was an advanced warning! The home had to be vacated fast to let renters in to try and raise a lot of income fast. This house was never the same "after the storm!" Future plans were destroyed. The storm ended in October, 2009, but the good old days are now buried and gone forever locked in cyberspace! What is to happen in the future, i do not know. Until then, things remain hanging in suspended animation!
