DAY 3A - Saturday, August 24, 2002

W. YELLOWSTONE, MT. TO JACKSON, WY.

I woke up in W. Yellowstone, MT. at 6:55 am. Time for an early start. Mileage read 13,480 kms.

Hey! Welcome to Yellowstone! I am here! Yahooo... Lots of good photos to take in this park!

From the fire of 1988, the forest has be coming back. There was a lot of devastated land destroyed. Amazing how it reseeds itself!

I came across these two deer across the river that runs along the highway.

Once in the park, I turned right towards "Old Faithful". This was my first glimpse of geysers ahead.

Scenic boardwalks on unstable ground.

Got to love the scenery, but not the stinky sulphur smell in the air.

So amazing to be walking on one giant volcano! Look at the steam gush out of the ground. (And you can see my shadow.) That molten rock is sooo close to the surface in this park.

Here is a muddy boiling pothole!

Red Spouter. This one had a real hissing sound venting away!

Free hot water for the taking!

Too hot to bathe in!

I liked hiking along here for closer views of the geysers.

I got some pretty nice composed pics with the help of these boardwalks!

The hot water dumps right in the river. I wonder if any fish live in the river???

Very scenic travelling in this park. "Old Faithful" not too far ahead now according to the map.

I came across a buffalo along the way.

Neat to just watch these geysers in amazement!

Some desolate looking places to see.

The views are awesome... better in person than I can capture on film.

Here it is, Old Faithful. I had about a 20 minute wait before it was due to erupt. Had my lunch here and then headed off to explore the rest of Yellowstone.
