Day 1 has arrived and here I was on the road heading off to what I thought was a three week adventure. Because of the horrible exchange rate, I was stocked up with food and drinks for the entire trip to trim my costs down as much as possible. I did find some fast food deals that actually worked out to a good deal so I did get some hot meals.
I departed at 7:30 am, made a quick stop at the bank and gave the car a fresh wash. The mileage
reading at start was 12,157 kms. I left Calgary heading off west on Hwy 22X to Hwy 22 South.
Turner Valley, Alberta on Hwy 22 South.
Driving along Hwy 22 South, I came upon a real cowboy cattle drive. Also saw pipeline construction on the other side of the road and a fence that had ballcaps on the posts further along this very scenic route. There was also a sign warning of the lack of gas stations along this highway.
Cowley, Alberta. Home of the wind generators. You will see these as you turn off of Hwy 22 South onto Hwy 3 East and head east for a short distance.
As you turn off Hwy 3 East to Hwy 6 South, you find these cutouts of a cattle drive to your left.
Pincher Creek, Alberta. Welcome sign with the wind generators off in the distance.
This looked like it would make for a nice picture close to the Pincher Creek welcome sign on Hwy 6 South.
Before arriving at Waterton National Park, I found this buffalo paddock.
Here I go looking for buffalo!
I found them!
Take a closer look at the Prince of Wales!
As you drive into Waterton National Park, you come across the Prince of Wales hotel.
A closer view of the hotel.
A view of the townsite from a window inside the Prince of Wales hotel.
Trying a self portrait from the Men's room! All original fixtures!
Cameron Falls. A waterfall right in the townsite itself.
Wildlife right in the townsite.
A photo opportunity of a pond near Cameron Lake.
And Cameron Lake. I saw a van with California plates and the website http://www.backroads.com in the parking lot.
The road to the creek.
Another scene as you approach the creek.
The colorful creek from the bridge. Looking up the creek.
Looking down the creek.
As I approached the U.S. border, I came across this brown bear on the hill beside me. I crossed the border at 2:30pm and was now on Hwy 89 South.
Chief Mountain. That was also the name of the border crossing.
Cows, cows everywhere. You got to slowdown and be careful with these animals that they do not dart in front of you. They can be unpredictable.
