DAY 12 - Monday, September 2, 2002

RENO, NV. TO BEND, ORE.

Well, I woke up in Reno and headed down Hwy 395 north to Hwy 36 west to Hwy 89 north to Lassen National Park. then to I-5 over to Hwy 97 north. Then on Hwy 39 north to Hwy 97 north. On down to Hwy 62 to Crater Lake National Park exiting onto Hwy 138 east back to Hwy 97 north to Bend. Then concluding the day with an odometer reading now of 20,227 kms on Ulysses.

Welcome to Lassen National Park!

Looks like a very thin earth's crust here just like what I came across in Yellowstone National Park.

I enjoyed travelling the roads through this national park.

You just never know what is up around the next bend.

Emerald Lake. Now I need to find 'Emerald City' and talk to the wizard about recieving a few much needed items! haha

I pulled off into this rest area to enjoy the view.

I passed this small lake beside the highway.

Very scenic road as it winds it way through the hills.

You can hike up to the top of this dormant volcano.

I am always ready to take a picture when I can find some interesting scenery.

One of the last views of the volcano as I continue on down the road in my adventure.

The highway cuts straight through the forest for miles. Kind of reminded me here that before I arrived at Lassen National Park, I found some lichen in the forest which is used on model railroads. I now know where to go to pick my own.

Mt. Shasta towers this town.

This looked like a good vantage point to stop and take a picture. When you are roadtripping, you have to take the photo opportunity as they arrive.

I took another one aiming through the grass with the telephoto lens zoomed in for a different perspective.

Well, I was very close now to crossing the state line into Oregon. Thought that I would try for another picture of the Wandering Hobo for the main website.

Welcome to Oregon! I have done the coastal highway of Oregon a few times and was anxious now to see the inland part of the state. It was starting to get on into the later part of the day now. I figured that I would be able to get through Crater Lake before the sun went down.

Crater Lake National Park. Oregon's ONLY National Park! (Thanks Ron for passing on that information!)

Crater Lake. Wizard Island. I did not find the 'Emerald City' but I wonder if Wizard Island will do?

Crater Lake. Wizard Island. Taken near the visitor center.

Crater Lake. Wizard Island. It was so awesome to view the entire crater filled with water.

Crater Lake. Wizard Island. Amazing how many pictures you can get of this Island.

Crater Lake. Wizard Island.

Looking around the volcano rim.

Another rim shot.

Crater Lake. Wizard Island.

Crater Lake. Wizard Island from the west side as I travel on down the road. Too bad that I did not have the time to go full circle around the entire rim, but to just view the cream of the crop in this area. I guess the next time I visit here, I will be retired and have plenty of time. The sun is starting to really go down. Time to move on and get to Bend, Oregon. for the night.

I noticed the sun behind me now as I was headed east back to the main highway. It looked like it would make a good picture to cap of the day with.
