I woke up at 7:30 am and headed down Highway 160 to Highway 95 to Highway 373 south to Highway 127 and west on Highway 190. The elevation dropped to sea level.
Welcome to California!
Welcome to Death Valley. I must be crazy to come here in August. I went through here in the morning so it was actually not all that bad.
Such a long and deserted road.
Very lonely travelling this highway.
Highway 190.
The Devil's Corn Field.
Sand dunes off in the distance.
I saw this skipping rope on the other side of the road and turned around to get the picture. Another car was headed towards this guy so if he hung around for another 10 mins suntanning, he would have got a rude awakening!!!
The road through Death Valley. As you cross the valley, you climb in elevation. There are many stops with radiator water available in tanks incase you overheat. The signs say to shut off your air conditioning.
The road is longggggggg.
The road goes on and on.
Joshua trees along the highway.
Joshua trees are found in southern California. There is also Joshua Tree National Park near Palm Springs, California. It was a bit too far out of the loop that I was doing.
I believe that this is a Desert Rose.
A scenic view with a Desert Rose.
Scenic views along the highway.
Scenic highway.
Scenic view.
Scenic highway.
Scenic highway.
Lemon Cove, California is where you find these carvings right on the side of the highway.
The other side of the carving.
Very interesting carving.
I just love the detail.
Sequoia National Park.
Tunnel Rock. At one time you could drive your vehicle under here for a picture. I guess this hot spot became too congested with the amount of visitors to this park.
Sequoia trees.
You could park your vehicle on this tree.
A picture of the Wandering Hobo in this drive thru tree.
It was getting darker as I entered King's Canyon National Park. It was a race against the clock now to see this park while I still had some daylight.
The sun was going down. What a sunset!
My car with the sunset.
What a sunset!
And from here, it was downhill to Fresno, California. I had to stop at one point as my brakes were starting to overheat. I drove through Fresno and noticed someone with a gun in a liquor store doorway. Either it was a robbery or a plain clothes policeman busting someone. I did not try and find out. I headed up to a truck stop on the north end of town for the night.
