40,240 kms on the car now. 6:30 am bright and early wake up. I travelled down the I-10W with the humidity making my windshield constantly weep. I crossed a lonnnnngggg bridge. Then turned onto I-310S on elevated highway that had a speed advisory electronic sign and found a radar trap enroute as well. I turned onto Hwy 18 which follows the dike of the Mississippi River. Then I turned onto Hwy 1 at Donaldsville, Mississippi. I found this interesting driveway view and turned around to get the photo. After heading back down the highway, I saw a snake that had just gotten hit by a vehicle very close to the driveway where I had stopped to take my two pictures. I turned onto Hwy 61N and then drove the Natchez Trace Parkway and back onto Hwy 61N to Vicksburg, Mississippi. Then took I-20E and returned back on the Natchez Trace Parkway. Found some Turkey vultures trying to have a feast on roadkill. I saw a few wild turkeys and two more snakes near creek crossings. It rained then stormed a bit. In Tupelo, Mississippi, I took Hwy 78N to Memphis on this rainy night. I was going to call it a night at a truck stop and was settling in for the next 7 hrs when I heard squealing of tires followed by a statetrooper with flashing lights, speaking over the loudspeaker of the statetrooper's car. I was unable to make out what was said. I saw a number of black folk just hanging out of the 24hr restaraunt not going anywhere and figured that this would not be a good place to grab a quiet snooze. I decided to press on although very tired but wound up. I saw where Graceland was in Memphis and made it as far as Jackson, Tennessee where I pulled into a truck stop, shut down fast and was immediately off to la la la la land.
On I-10 heading towards New Orleans, I crossed this long bridge.
Welcome to New Orleans, Louisiana!
Turned off of I-10W onto I-310S and crossed over this bridge.
Found this tree on Hwy 18 following the Mississippi River.
Found this church and graveyard combo.
And the tombs above ground. One looked pretty old and the brick work was falling apart.
Some more of the terrain along Hwy 18.
I crossed over this bridge with the railway dividing both sides.
I would not mind having a driveway like this one!
Wouldn't my car look nice coming out of here?
Ugh! This snake was very close to where I took the driveway photo.
Entering Natchez Trace Parkway... no commercial vehicles allowed.
I found this turtle trying to cross the road. He didn't want me near him and ducked into his shell.
He made a run for it once I got back in my car.
This gives you a look at the lay of the land along this highway. Flowers were in bloom along the highway.
A Cypress swamp along the Natchez Trace Parkway.
Another view of the swamp.
And yet another view.
Turkey vultures scurry away as I approach for a picture.
Welcome to Tennessee and Memphis, Tennessee where I crossed over from Mississippi.
