I woke up in Miles City, Montana at 7:30 am noting the mileage reading of 34,837 kms. I got a good night's sleep in this homey city. I took hwy 59S to Belle Fourche, South Dakota and drove along rolling hills. Then onto hwy 85S to Spearfish, South Dakota. Then on I-90E to Rapid City, South Dakota. Then onto hwy 44E into the Badlands of South Dakota. oOps, I made a wrong turn onto hwy 27 as it was not marked very well. I double backed to hwy 44E. I saw some buffalo on the Badlands park loop which I took going north of hwy 44E. Then onto hwy 240S to Interior, South Dakota. Then back to hwy 44W. The gas station at Interior, South Dakota was closed on Sunday. Be sure to have a full tank when you do the Badlands on Sundays! I turned onto hwy 2W which was a gravel highway heading to the Black Hills of South Dakota. I happened to see a coyote running. I turned on hwy 79S to hwy 385/18N to Hot Springs, South Dakota. I decided to alter my original tentative plans and to spend a day in the Black Hills.
I passed through a corner of Wyoming enroute.
Heading back into one of my favorite states.
Lo and Behold, I found my casino. Thought that maybe I should see what else "Dean" owns down south.
Welcome to the Badlands of South Dakota!
And here they are...
Well, as you can see, I packed this car quite full for the 7 week adventure. The second cooler was for all the chocolate covered items!
Scenic Badlands.
Down the steps for a closer view.
A good picture of my car "Ulysses".
Nice to wear red when you have your photo taken.
Going down the highway in the Badlands.
Local vegetation.
Look at the wild vegetation. There was a fire that had burnt this crop making for an interesting picture.
Some of the badlands is pretty rugged terrain.
I stopped along the gravel hwy 2 road for this photo.
The road is longgggggg. And even longer when you travel slower because it is a gravel one!
Sundown with the buffalo! Headed into Hot Springs, South Dakota for the night.
