COAST TO COAST ROAD TRIP ACROSS CANADA - DAY 1

COAST TO COAST ROAD TRIP ACROSS CANADA - DAY 1

May 21, 2004 - CALGARY, ALBERTA TO CASTLEGAR, B.C.

Well, the day finally arrived to leave on a two month adventure which was to be 47 days on the road followed by a week at the timeshare to relax before returning to work. First of all the plans were to travel to Vancouver Island and then return to Calgary for a night and for me to sign up for my run at work and then to head off east the next day. This would allow us to drop off any stuff that we really were not using to save space in the car before heading east.

We headed out hwy 22X and then took hwy 22 south stopping at Turner Valley for this picture. Turner Valley is next to the town of Black Diamond which has been remodelled into a nice stopover town to enjoy.

As you travel down hwy 22 south, you find this interesting display of baseball caps attached to the top of the fenceposts.

Once we arrived at the junction of hwy 3 we took hwy 3 west as we headed towards Vancouver. The next picture spot was in Sparwood, B.C. We set up the tripod to take this photo using the frame provided. hehe

Sparwood, B.C. has the world's largest truck on display. Again, we used the tripod for this photo. As you can see, the weather was very cool with Linda wearing her parka.

We found this picnic area and took a picture of this old mining train.

Well, usually I am the photographer so I don't always get into the picture.

We crossed over this brige along the way still on hwy 3 heading west. I lost track of which side of Castlegar, B.C. this photo was taken plus the next ones on this page so email me if you know where they belong. Thanks.

This tunnel is part of the Trans Canada Trail, a trail which is suppose to one day cross the country. This is the first piece of the trail that I have come across so far in my travels.

Okay, my notes were not detailed enough to record the town where this buzzard was located. Help me out if you can. Greenwood, B.C. maybe?

We arrived very late in Castlegar, B.C. and decided to car camp that night. We put up the curtain and drifted off to sleep.
