Day 6, Friday, August 15, 2003 - Wasilla, Alaska to Wasilla, Alaska

Haha, I drove from Wasilla to Wasilla meaning that I took a tour to Seward and Homer and back. I started out with 64,040 kms on the odometer. I had breakfast with Coleen and Bob at a local restaraunt with Alaskan flavor to eat where the locals eat. I thought that I would be gone for a two day trip but did it in one so I said my goodbyes just incase I past through at an inconvient time which I ended up leaving Wasilla on Sat, the 16th of August. I left a note on the museum gate to send an email back home to let everyone know that I was okay. I wasn't able to get on the net on this trip. Too much wilderness and no time to stop. I took hwy 3S then hwy 1S. I passed by Ship Creek. I felt deja vu that I had been up Ship Creek in my life at some point! :) I made a side trip to a small town of Hope and continued on to Seward. I figured that if I did it this way and was double backing, I would be double backing over the same scenery at night so that I would not miss anything which paid off in the end. I arrived in Seward, Alaska at 3:19 pm. There were two ferries in the harbor. I drove around for a bit and left for Homer, Alaska. Hwy 9N and hwy 1W and returned to Wasilla, Alaska very late that night. I overnighted at the Fred Myers store with a number of Rvers.

I stopped at a wayside rest and had to change films. This train was in the distance moving very fast towards me. I barely got the shot in time.

I took a second photo as the train passed.

Another view of the shore which the highway followed for a ways.

Looking out from the shoreline.

I stopped on the road to Hope, Alaska where I had been seeing this interesting plant with the berries and finally got a picture of them.

Lilypads.

On the highway to Homer.

Another view as you follow the water but high up in the hills.

At a rest stop before you descend the hill down into Homer, Alaska. That body of water is Cook Inlet.

The flower planters at the rest stop.

Over the houses below, you can barely make out the jut into the water. That was my first view of Homer Spit as they call it.

The Welcome to Homer sign at the rest stop.

Homer Spit.

Homer Spit without Ulysses, my car in it.

A look at some of the shops on Homer Spit.

A Memorial.

A couple that were sitting on the bench in the last picture stood up to take a photo. I like it when I can get a photo of someone wearing red as you can see how nice that stands out in the picture.

I liked this school bus conversion to a travelling cabin.

Looking at the back of the bus.
