Day 4, Wednesday, August 13, 2003 - Tok, Alaska to Wasilla, Alaska

Day 4, Wednesday, August 13, 2003 - Tok, Alaska to Wasilla, Alaska

Up at 7:00am and 62,924 kms on the car now. I took hwy 1S and noticed the top of a telephone pole where someone had cut off the pole itself. Weird looking it was. I saw a moose. Then took hwy 4S and passed through Keystone Canyon and Thompson Pass on the way to Valdez, Alaska arriving there at 11:15am local time. I looked around and grabbed a sub sandwich for lunch and headed on my way on hwy 4N. Then I took hwy 1W and hwy 3N to Wasilla, Alaska.

This top of the telephone suspended by the wires and it sure looked weird.

The highway to Valdez. There was a number of gravel sections to drive through on this highway.

Sunrise.

Hwy 1W.

You get some nice views travelling this highway.

A turn off to a rest area.

I took a picture of I guess one of the first glaciers that I came upon.

Worthington Glacier in the Thompson Pass along hwy 4.

Worthington Glacier.

There was fog coming off of the Lowe river.

Bridle Veil Falls along hwy 4S.

Horseshoe Falls.

Just before Valdez, I came across this sign along a bike path.

I found this carving near a Subway restaraunt.

Hwy 4N as I return to the hwy 1W cutoff.

Another view looking the other way.

This was an awesome shot.

Highway 4 sign. The Alaska dipper and north star logo was done by an orphan boy when they had a contest for the Alaska flag design.

A view of the scenery.

Another view looking the other way.

I was in a line lead by a pilot vehicle through the construction along here. I stopped briefly to get this picture. Vehicles were spacing themselves with all of the Alaska dust that was getting kicked up.

Alaska dust. You have to scrub this stuff off your vehicle as it seems to stick pretty good. It sure was hard to keep my car clean up there with the rain and mud.
