Day 3, Tuesday, August 12, 2003 - Whitehorse, Yukon to Tok, Alaska

I got up at 11:00 am in Whitehorse, Yukon. 62,229 kms on the odometer and headed off downtown to the visitor center and then off on hwy 1N. I passed Kluane Lake and crossed the Alaska border at 5:50pm local time. I now was on hwy 2 and smelt some forest fire smoke. I noticed that some autumn colors were happening already up here. I saw 2 coyotes cross the highway. I arrived in Tok, Alaska and asked a gal at the 24 hr. Chevron where I could get a cheap place to spend the night. She told me to park out back behind the facility. I made some supper and later met a Lutheran pastor making his second trip to Alaska who pulled in next to me with his van and trailer.

Along the Alaska highway.

I found this in Haines Junction, Yukon.

Kluane Lake, Yukon.

I pondered whether to take this picture of the pond. :)

And finally I crossed into Alaska at 5:50pm local time!

I didn't have a camcorder when I did this trip, and have found these videos to help give a motion picture perspective!

The bridge over the Tok River.

Here is where I got to camp overnight for free. Others arrived as the evening wore on. I heated up a tin of my chicken noodle soup for supper with my new stove.
