Day 10, Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - Hazelton, B.C. to Calgary, Alberta

68,186 kms on the car and little did I know that I would make it all the way home today. I woke up at 6:15 am local time and took a few pictures at their visitor center and headed on down the highway. Hwy 16E that is and this highway had plenty of the semi trucks on it compared to where I have been. I arrived in Prince George, B.C. at 11:45am local time. I took hwy 97S to hwy 26E to Barkerville and back. Then hwy 97S to hwy 24E. There was a 9 km stretch of 8% grade downhill to hwy 5S to Kamloops passing a wildfire near Barriere. I then took hwy 1E in Kamloops home to Calgary arriving at 6:10 local time with 69,952 kms on the car. A stretch of driving 1,766 kms or 1126 miles straight! I had passed another fire burning near Chase, B.C. and the road to the Kootenays was closed due to a fire there.

I found this prospector and burrow at the Hazelton visitor center.

And also this lumberjack.

Moriatown Canyon.

I found this figure at the Prince George visitor center.

This mini lake was on the way to Barkerville (hwy 26) just before you go through Devil's Canyon.

Welcome to Barkerville, B.C. a historic gold mining town.

Welcome to Quesnel, B.C., the gold pan city! Look at the size of that nugget!

I found this prospector at the Quesnel visitor center.

I stopped at a rest area along hwy 24.

Going downhill at the end of hwy 24 into Little Fort, B.C., an 8% grade for a long ways. My brakes got a workout here.

The end or is it just the beginning? The next trip will tell all I am sure so hang around til the summer of 2004 and see.
